About me

My name is Amy Margolis. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Co-Founder and Director of Santa Monica Counseling. With years of experience, I specialize in individual, couples, family, and group therapy for people recovering from eating disorders, addictions, anxiety, depression, and relational issues.

I also supervise Associate Social Workers (ASWs) and Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFTs) as they gain their clinical hours. And finally, I recently authored my first book, "Here's the Memo!,” to help women let go of any negative or deprivation thinking that robs them of living with freedom, authenticity, abundance, and personal power!

Career Journey

I began my career as a children's crisis therapist in Florida, working with at-risk youth and their families. My next role took me to NYC, where I became an adoption social worker, supporting birthmothers experiencing unplanned pregnancies, couples facing infertility, and families formed through adoption.

In Los Angeles, I worked as an inpatient eating disorder therapist at both the Radar Institute, which follows a Twelve Step Recovery model, and Monte Nido, which utilizes a behavioral model.

For the past twenty years, I have been a supervisor and clinician in private practice. My extensive training includes Sex and Love Addiction, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Group Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. Additionally, I have completed online training in Somatic Therapy with Peter Levine and Couples Therapy with Esther Perel.

Outside the clinical world, I am a Meisner and Groundlings-trained actor, who has focused primarily on voice-over work. I have worked for Nickelodeon, Netflix, and Disney, and on many commercials, podcasts, and video games. So I have a good understanding of the industry and life of an artist!
